Is there anything worse than running scout teams?
We’ve seen it all when it comes to coaches trying to run an efficient scout team session. That was me too. I was the one color coding every route with my rainbow pack of Sharpies. Then I was the one spending hours on the weekends entering plays into Hudl’s play creator.
However, the problems still remained. We had to get 11 unmotivated guys to huddle up, find their position, read their job, “run” to the line and remember their job in order to execute it.
A couple years ago I finally had enough. Our record at the time was 2 and 4. We were giving up close to 30 points a game and I knew part of our problem was not giving our defense the best look during the week.
That week we implemented a new scout team system. We went on to give up less than 12 points a game after that week on our way to winning our school’s first state title in nearly 30 years.
In this video I explain how we fixed our scout team problems.
